Interpolate trajectory

This modifier interpolates the particle positions in between successive snapshots of a simulation trajectory. It can be used to create smoothly looking animations from relatively coarse sequences of simulation snapshots.

First, you should reduce the playback rate of the loaded simulation sequence. Instead of one animation frame per simulation snapshot, OVITO will then render N animation frames per snapshot. See the animation section for instruction how to do this. The interpolation modifier is then applied to vary the particle positions on the intermediate animation frames.

The Use minimum image convention option should be used if the particle positions in a system with periodic boundary conditions were stored in wrapped form by the molecular dynamics code. If activated, the modifier will automatically detect if a particle has crossed a simulation box boundary between two successive simulation frames and compute the unwrapped displacement vector correctly.
